1 pound (lb) = 3500 calories (cals)
1 lb weight gain = eat 3,500 cals more than burn
1 lb weight loss = eat 3,500 cals less than burn
For example, if you eat 500 extra calories a day (about 1 cheeseburger), you will gain a pound a week.
The average female burns 2,000 calories a day.
The average male burns 2,500 calories a day.
