It's Lunch Time

Today I tried Merzi on 7th Street.  I walked passed it last week after I ordered my favorite Pad Woon Sen (Cellophane noodles sauteed with shrimp, pork, egg, carrot, scallion, celery and black musrhooms)
from Thai Chili.

Back to Merzi, from their website:
When you walk into Merzi, you will be surrounded by delicious aromas–try to focus on the meal you are about to order for yourself! Walk to the counter and get ready to order.
  1. Pick one of the following for the base for your meal: naan, rice, salad or chaat.
  2. Pick one of the following: Black-eyed peas, garbanzo beans, or onion-pepper mix.
  3. Choose your meat (or not!).
  4. Pick whichever fresh vegetables you like.
  5. Choose one of our warm sauces or cool chutneys to throw on top of it all.
  6. Choose a drink and ask for a samosa or potato tikka at the register.
  7. Grab a fork (or just grab your naan roll) and enjoy!

Definitions:

Naan: A type of Indian flatbread. Very fluffy and soft.
Chaat: A savory selection of beans and other vegetables topped off with yogurt and a tamarind-date chutney. It’s kind of like an Indian salad, but without the lettuce.
Masala: A sauce similar to a gravy. Also means a mixture of spices.
Chutney: A cold sauce that usually accompanies savory meals.
Merzi is reminiscent to Chipotle/Qdoba where you select the main item and proceed down the line adding toppings.  My base was naan (it was like a pita and I'm use to it hot off the tandoori oven) topped with chicken, chickpeas, potatoes, peppers and onions, lettuce, corn, red onions, all three masalas (spicy onion tomato, medium creamy tikka, and mild buttery makani), all three chutnies (spicy red chili, medium cilantro-mint, and mild tamarind-date).  The combination added great flavor.  I will try the rice bowl next time.
